The Agawa Canyon Tour Train made its triumphant return over the weekend operating for the first time in two years. Following the “tracks of the black bear”, passengers are treated to spectacular scenery as the railway winds its way around the rugged rock formations, rivers and lakes north of Sault Ste. Marie. Numerous hardwood forests also dot the landscape with the fall colours nearly at their peak here high above the Montreal River. Sadly, since CN inherited this trackage as part of the Wisconsin Central acquisition, freight service has been basically mothballed south of Hawk Junction. With the pending sale to Watco, optimism that some of this traffic can be restored is on the rise, hopefully filling in scenes like these along the once proud Algoma Central Railway.
