Indiana Boxcar Corporation SDM 818 and Chesapeake & Indiana GP38-2 5152 are seen near the Co-Alliance Grain elevator. Built in April 1959 as Duluth Missabe & Iron Range SD9 172, back when 2-8-8-4 Yellowstones were still on the DM&IR’s roster, this locomotive was later rebuilt as an "SDM" and numbered DMIR 318. This engine later became Elgin Joliet & Eastern 818, and painted orange. EJ&E sold it to Chesapeake & Indiana (CKIN 818) and it was then sold to leaser Indiana Boxcar Corporation (IBCX 818). (Union Mills, Indiana – September 25, 2021). Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE, along with necessary Covid precautions.. (And check out that signal!!!)
