"Long Distance Charger Visits NYC"
The first of Amtrak's new long distance locomotive fleet, Siemens ALC-42 #300, sits on the rear of Amtrak Test Train 870 inside New York's Pennsylvania Station during the night of November 18th, 2021. The locomotive briefly visited New York while undergoing initial testing on the Northeast Corridor.
300 is one of 75 brand new Siemens built ALC-42 locomotives purchased by Amtrak to haul its long distance trains across the United States. These locomotives feature the latest technology and will replace the aging GE P40/ P42 fleet.
