Hugging the coastline as it heads south to San Diego is Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 768, which originated in Goleta, near Santa Barbara. Cruising along the Pacific Ocean at milepost 206, this train in on Metrolink's Orange Sub … for just another 1.4 miles. At that point, it will pass onto San Diego Northern's San Diego Sub. (San Diego Northern is actually the San Diego County's North County Transit District, which operates most of the transit in the county (Coaster and Sprinter commuter trains and also transit buses). This Surfliner has 60 more miles to go before reaching its destination of San Diego, much of it along the beach, as seen here. (San Clemente, California – April 14, 2021)
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
