Columbia Basin Railroad’s Connell turn approaches Moon Road grade crossing as the train descends a grade into Connell, Washington, on September 28, 2021. Even though their journey to the CBRW locomotive roster varied, both of these SD9s came from Minnesota’s iron ore-hauling Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range. CBRW No. 608 went from DM&IR No. 121 to Elgin, Joliet & Eastern No. 611, before becoming Montana Rail Link No. 608. CBRW No. 171 still carries its old Missabe number since being built by EMD in April 1959.
