The Christmas Miracle? Vermont Rail System has found itself short of motive power this winter and gone to the bullpen to bring in the veteran reliever, Alco RS-1 405, normally reserved for excursion service. The RS-1 has been handling hundreds of cars weekly since early December and is a steadfast part of the VRS roster. On December 21, a rare opportunity presented when VRS had to retrieve a big cut of cars off of the New England Central at Walpole, NH. The cut was long enough that the Alco had to emerge from the south end of the New England Central Palmer Subdivision's Bellows Falls Tunnel. Decorated with lighted wreath for a special holiday photo shoot, the GMRC 405 is seen as it prepares to back onto the VRS property.
