"Welcome to America" ALP-45A 4538 has just completed its month's long journey across the Atlantic Ocean from Kassel, Germany to Port Newark, NJ and is being wheeled off the Atlantic Star Ro/Ro ship on December 31, 2021 in preparation for being delivered to NJ Transit. The 4538 is one of 25 new Alstom/ Bombardier ALP45A locomotives purchased by NJ Transit, and is the third locomotive to arrive into the United States. Once transported off the ship, the locomotive will be lifted off the rubber-wheeled trailer and placed onto the US rail network, where Conrail Shared Assets will tow the unit to Kearny, NJ for interchange with NJ Transit. The new dual-mode locomotives meet EPA Tier IV emissions standards and are to replace older locomotives in the NJ Transit fleet.
