Okay, so a CSX SD40-2 leading a road train in 2021 is not the thing that’s weird about this photo. However, what & where it’s leading is something I did not see coming. CSX 8064 leads Norfolk Southern train 10A, new Mercedes Benz vehicles built in Vance, AL bound for the Port of Brunswick, GA, heads east through Temple, GA on NS’s Birmingham East District. Seeing an SD40 leader on CSX is something that can still be seen in 2021, but to see one on NS leading a road train (let alone one from a foreign line) has become extremely rare. This naturally had a lot of railfans, including myself, out to go after this rare occurrence, because lord knows when/if it’ll ever happen again.
