Remarks & Notes |
On April 25th, 1946 in Naperville at 1:03pm a train slammed into another train that was stopped on the tracks killing 46 people and injuring 125. The engineer of the train that hit the stopped one came around the curve in Naperville and went into emergency. There wasn’t enough time for the train to stop and it slammed into the stopped train. it’s said to be one of the worst if not the worst train wreck in history. BNSF 2183 (A GP38-2) leads R-CHI458 for Western Avenue east past the memorial sight for the wreck at the Naperville Amtrak Station right down the street from where the wreck happened 76 years ago. |
