Lifting the pops in Howard Tunnel. As she was being posed for photographers at the south portal of the historic Howard Tunnel in November of 2021, the Northern Central Railway's beautiful York 17 locomotive suddenly lifted her safety valves, putting on an unplanned steam show for the cameras. Shortly before this image was captured, her crew, which had been posing on the pilot, made a mad dash back to the cab to activate an injector to cool the boiler down and save us a little water for the long trip back to New Freedom.
