Remarks & Notes |
The hot Global 2 to Salt Lake Z-train hammers down. Seems like this Z is getting hotter than the Z-BRB as the engineer has all 5 jacks in the left corner as they fly across a high Cedar River. This part of the mainline was built about 30 years later as a cutoff to by-pass downtown Cedar Rapids between Otis and Beverly. Once a gauntlet bridge the UP built this into a standard double track bridge in late 1996. In 1898 double track was added to this by-pass and in 1956 the double track thru Cedar Rapids was removed. Now days, other than a milepost jump near Beverly, one would never know that the mainline was never originally built to go thru here. |
