It's a pity that such a spectacular machine can only come back to life through photographs of the Quinta Normal's visitors. Locomotive 1009 is the only survivor of the 10 type 100 that arrived to Chile. They were built in 1935 by Henschel & Sohn in Germany. Just like the 110 series, their movement was restricted to the line between Santiago and Talca, due to its heavy weight. One of its most distinctive characteristics are the big smoke deflectors, very common in the european trains. They were designed to lift smoke away from the locomotive, so that the driver has better visibility.
