FP7A 690 had an interesting history. L&N had a big fleet of FP7As, but as passenger service declined, most were re-geared and put into freight service. In 1966, the ten FP7As with the best steam generators were renumbered 690-699, and continued (at least for a while) to power passenger trains. I do not know if after initiation of Amtrak service 690-699 were also re-geared.
