| After sewage and storm water is cleaned at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant, the Chicago Sanitary District Railroad hauls the leftover solids away and dumps them here at the drying fields just a few miles away in Willow Springs. From here, the solids become eventually become biosolids and used as an alternative to chemical fertilizers. Back in the day the railroad would clean out some cars and gives rides during to guests during the Metropolitan Water District's open house. |
