One of the more unlikely Class 1 operations that's survived through 2022 in NC is NS's "J Line" branch to Chapel Hill, where the University of North Carolina has a coal fired power plant that receives cuts of hoppers, and an adjacent cement plant gets some traffic. The J Line is technically operated as the State University Railroad, which still exists as a subsidiary of NS. At the moment, UNC is still at least 15+ years away from ending the use of coal on campus, but with mounting pressure, it is anyone's guess how much longer it'll last. In the meantime, the P07 local still heads down here several times a week. The Good Friday edition is seen entering Yard Limits at Carrboro.
