It is 4:40 pm (16:40) and, as happens so often in the Midwest, a thunderstorm is blowing into town. The first band of rain has let up as a trio of Union Pacific AC4400CWs (5921, 6807 and 6789) pull a grain train into town on the Kansas City Terminal’s East-West Corridor. Before long the skies will darken even more, the rain returns and the thunder and lightning will put on a show – which will be enjoyed by this southern Californian who rarely gets to witness such spectacular weather.
