Locomotives are needed in Los Angeles, which explains why BNSF Railway D-BARLAC3-09 (Light Engines, Barstow CA to Los Angeles CA) speeds through Basta, at milepost 163 (two miles west of Fullerton) on the railway’s San Bernardino Sub, overtaking intermodal train S-MEMSCO1-21 (Intermodal Stacks; Memphis TN to Thenard CA with, for those keeping score at home, BNSF ES44DC 7344). The stack train is parked on Track 2 as the afternoon rush of Amtrak and Metrolink trains move passengers home from work – but the speedy light engine move isn’t held up, either.
