Both led by all-EMD power, Soo Line trains 12 and 17 meet at Bryon, Wisconsin, on the afternoon of May 9, 1987. The Lake States era of Soo Line was colorful and frequently featured older locomotives. Powering train 12 is GP30 No. 717, GP35 No. 724, GP30 No. 700 and GP9 No. 410. Leading train 17 is another GP30, No. 712, along with leased Conrail GP38 No. 7739 and former Milwaukee Road GP20 (a rebuilt GP9) No. 962.
