An eastbound Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway freight slows for a crew change as it nears the western end of the railway’s First District, which extends from San Bernardino to Barstow. This train has four-year-old ATSF SD45-2 5692 on the headend, teamed with a trio of SD26s (rebuilt SD24s, in this case 4658, 4664 and 4657), and after the crew change the train will climb Cajon Pass.
