Remarks & Notes |
The full drama of the Swiss Alps is captured from above as a Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) train descends the Oberalp Pass from Nätschen to Andermatt.
This section of line sees the railway zig-zag while using the rack in order to gain some 400m in height. In the process passengers are treated to some of the most impressive scenery available on the route.
Even in this remote landscape the Swiss habit of mowing lawns is in evidence - at higher altitudes snow still covers some patches of the ground.
MGB trains on this section are currently loco-hauled, usually with HGe4/4ii locomotives such as that in use here. |
