One of the American success story railroads is the modern day Mississippi Export Railroad. Celebrating 100 years independently owned this year is the small shortline headquartered in Moss Point, Mississippi. 100 years ago Gregory M Luce purchased the railroad, then named the Alabama and Mississippi, and renamed it the Mississippi Export. 100 years later the Mississippi Export is running at its strongest ever under the leadership of Kate Luce. Pictured here are the railroads two original GP38-2 locomotives. Numbers 65 and 66 were purchased from Electro Motive Diesel in 1975 (65) and 1979 (66). The railroad has kept these GP38's in great shape. Recently both motors were rebuilt. From the factory they sport small fuel tanks, no dynamic braking, a gyralight package on both long and short hoods, and Leslie RS5T horns. In this photograph the matched set is seen rolling into the small community of Movella, Mississippi, just about halfway-ish down the Export's mainline between the CN interchange at Evanston, Ms, and Moss Point. I'll have a few more photos from this day soon. For about a month the photos were lost due to user error, but happily I was able to find them yesterday evening.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!
