So...here's where property lines get tricky. CFRC maintains & operates the double track mainline in Taft, but CSXT maintains & operates the yard leads and adjoined yard on either side of it, in essence bracketing the main. They actually have a fairly fluid relationship, but if CSXT needs to cross from one side to the other, it requires the cooperation of CFRC. Here, the OCS has pulled off the #1 mainline track, which typically is oriented for southbounds, while a northbound CFRC "scoot" hustles up the #2 main.
CSX has diverse passenger operations that include office car specials, trips to major events like the Kentucky Derby, track geometry trains and the annual Santa Claus train over the northern section of the fallen flag Clinchfield Railroad.
