Remarks & Notes |
A 2x3 DP'd Martin Lake, TX, bound coal train rolls off Rich Mountain as they approach Mena on the Shreveport Sub. The Rich Mountain area on the KCS Shreveport Sub is a well known location. The KCS goes up around the Quachita Mountains near the Oklahoma/Arkansas Stateline. Here trains go from 500 feet to the summit at 1600 feet in a 20 mile climb. This train spent 30 minutes to go 10 miles on this 1% grade between Page and Rich Mountain. Now the trip will be easier as they drop down to 300 feet by the time they get past De Quincy in 50 miles. |
