"EIV Parked on the Old Put"
On July 6th, 2022, Metro-North Railroad's Engineering Inspection Vehicle sits parked on the far end of the former New York & Putnam Railroad (Old Put) at Putnam Junction, just off of the Harlem Line, in Brewster, New York, awaiting its next assignment. A majority of the Putnam Line between New York City and Brewster was converted into a rail trail years ago, leaving the wye and less than a thousand feet of tail track on the north end intact for Metro-North use. The in service portion of the existing trackage and trail are separated by a fence as seen in the photo.
IC 2020 was commissioned by Metro-North in 2016 and completed by ENSCO Incorporated in 2020. It features the latest laser, optical and inertial sensor systems to analyze the condition of the rail and track infrastructure, alerting onboard Metro-North engineering specialists to any track anomalies.
