Running a little behind schedule – 12 hours 45 minutes behind, in fact – is Amtrak train 3, the westbound Southwest Chief heading from Chicago to Los Angeles. Amtrak 50th Anniversary P42DC locomotive 160 and 71 are splitting the searchlight signals at Atwood, the junction where Metrolink's Olive Sub diverges from BNSF's San Bernardino Sub. (These classic searchlights are due to be removed soon, as their replacements are already in place.) Amtrak 3 was running so late that eastbound Amtrak 4 ferried a fresh crew to train 3, making for an interesting meet in west Corona, twelve or thirteen miles to the east. Amtrak 160 is one of the carrier's 50th Anniversary locomotives, painted in the "Pepsi Can" scheme in which the 500-class Dash 8-32BWHs were delivered back in December 1991.
