CSXT 8258 (née-BO 7616, SD40-2) was working the CSX yard in Selkirk, New York when it had a passing meet with Amtrak Selkirk Brach Qualification Train P924-30 near the east end of the yard. The Amtrak train is running on one of 2 "bypass tracks" that were installed in 2016.
Railroads Cooperate. After some debris fell from Central Warehouse in Albany, New York, and the subsequent need to asses the possible instability of the building, Amtrak service was been suspended between Albany-Rensselaer and Schenectady, New York since the last train, Train 49 (Lake Shore Limited), passed on Thursday night(July 29, 2022) until Monday August 1, 2022 when Train 48 (Lake Shore Limited) crossed the Livingston Avenue Bridge. Minor repairs were made to the building, and further discussion is being carried on about next steps.
In the meantime, CSX cooperated with Amtrak to begin qualifying Amtrak crews on a diversion route normally only used by freight trains. When will diversion trains run? How many? How long will this go on? These are all excellent questions without definitive answers at the moment.
