Welcome To The Middle Of Nowhere. It was a bit later than usual when Amtrak 8 (Empire Builder) made the stop at Glasgow, Montana on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, with Webb Rail's former Northern Pacific Railway Budd built dome/coach 549 (WEBX 801045) and former Northern Pacific Railway Budd built Pullman dome/sleeper 313 (WEBX 801044) holding the markers. In 2018, the "Washington Post” published a map of the most isolated towns in the United States (population 1,000 or more), as measured by how long it takes for residents to drive to the nearest metropolitan area, and Glasgow, Montana was at the top of the list. They called this map "The Middle Of Nowhere”. In spite of having a population of just over 3,000 people, Glasgow is notable not only for its Amtrak Station, but is also the birthplace of a numbers of professional athletes as well as former United States Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul.
