Brand new cogwheel railcar Bhe 2/2 # 41 of the Pilatusbahnen, built by StadlerRail and Calag (Langenthal), is in regular service on the steepest cogwheel railway of the world since very few days. Running train CC 18 from Pilatus Kulm down to Alpnachstad, the new vehicle is leaving the 55 meter long Fleimen tunnel in the Eselwand (doneky wall). The Pilatus Bahn is the only rack railway using the system invented by Eduard Locher, which allowed a maximum grade of up to 48.0 %. Tracks, rack rail and the whole superstructure of the railway dates mainly from the construction of the line in 1887/1888.
