“Amtrak, America’s Railroad”
A father and son enjoying the beautiful August evening watch Amtrak 171 roll past Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Virginia. Located just outside of Washington, DC, the monument dedicated to the nation’s first president can be seen poking above to the left. This Amtrak train started in Boston, Massachusetts and is terminating in Roanoke, Virginia. The GE Genesis P42 DC on the head end was put on the head end when the train arrived at Union Station in Washington, DC. As the route from Boston to DC is electrified, it uses a different locomotive in that portion.
With Northeast Regional trains, Auto Train and long distance service to Florida, New Orleans and Chicago, a lot of train riding and train watching can be had.
