Remarks & Notes
The series of 143 engines were built between 1914 and 1922, with a break during World War I. These excellent shunting machines built for the State network with 143 units numbered 40001 to 40143 then 040 TA 1 to 143 at the SNCF, represented the largest homogeneous series of 040 tenders in the French fleet and gave satisfaction for more than a year. half century. These saturated steam locomotives and simple expansion, allowed driving to a single agent. The change of course was controlled by a steam servo-motor, facilitating the many changes in the yards. The majority of the series died out at the end of the 1960s, replaced by ever more numerous diesel engines
