F45 cowl locomotives have a design that likely reducing air resistance, but more importantly, it does provide a crew member some protection from the elements when troubleshooting at speed. Built as Burlington Northern No. 6642 in May 1971, the locomotive went through several owners before becoming MRL No. 392 on April 7, 1994.
