The Conway Scenic Railroad Mountaineer is seen passing Woodland Pines on the return trip from Crawford Notch. Locomotive 573 is a veteran of Conway Scenic and was built for Maine Central in 1950. The second unit, Boston & Maine F7A 4268 was recently restored at the Conway shops and is powered by a prime mover that was transplanted from a former New Hampshire Northcoast GP9. The locomotive, along with sister 4266 is owned by the 470 Railroad Club.
Beautiful mountain scenery has made this small state a draw for rail buffs to ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Conway Scenic, among others.
