The Bridge Was Fixed. On the morning of September 29, 2022, Rock Island Rail GP15-1 RILX 1106 (née-CNW 4411, EMD, 6/1976) headed out to the interchange with Kansas City Southern Railroad to pick up a lumber car for Interior Exterior Building Supply. The rebirth of this line brings great promise to the area for more than just single car movement to supply the industries in the Harrison County Development Commission/Gulfport, Mississippi area. The line had been dormant for several years before Rock Island Rail met with county officials and developed a plan to repair the track, including this bridge over the Bayou Bernard and a significant washout. The car would be unloaded while the crew waited and returned to KCS to keep the demurrage charges as low as possible. Rock Island Rail has already developed a relationship with several companies in the area that now receive shipments by rail.
