Hooping It Up. On the night of Saturday, October 1, 2022, the Illinois Railway Museum hosted a night shoot featuring former St. Louis-San Francisco Railway "Frisco" 1918 Baldwin Locomotive Works 1630 (2-10-0). This is one of 2 operating "decapods" in the United States (the other being former Great Western No. 90 at the Strasburg Rail Road) and is an active member of the IRM steam fleet. The scene is set by Spaulding Tower on the sprawling Union, Illinois campus as a crew member hoops up orders to the engineer. This was one of several arranged scenes that night that used alien bees for light and patient volunteers for added effect.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
