The various SD40-2Fs re-acquired by CP from the purchase of CMQ began their repaints to assimilate back into CP initials last April. The first of these units to be repainted, CP 9022, journeyed north from St. Paul into Winnipeg that May where it would spend the next 2 months running yard jobs and ballast runs to Dyment ON, only occasionally leading when running light power within yards. In July, this routine would change when it was placed on a CWR bound for the rockies with ex-SOO CP 6607 leading according to my sources. My head canon is that part of its CWR loads were dispersed along the way, likely leading to the power being wyed in Brandon as it spent a few days there. Once it departed on its way west again, CP 9022 would lead for the first time on the mainline under CP initials in almost a decade, exactly 3 months after it was released from the shops in St. Paul. The dry prairie atmosphere allowed for an evening of clear skies as it made its way through southern Saskatchewan. A strategically planned bike ride to the western edge of town with a promise I would be back in one hour yielded this capture of CWR-27 shortly after departing Regina with the skyline on display behind it.
