From The West Coast To The West Shore. Visiting Union Pacific locomotives 7453 (GE AC45CCTE) and 2669 (GE ET45AH) led CSX train B779-28 (Proviso, IL [UP]-Sewaren, NJ) down the River Sub during the passing of a surprising sunspot in an otherwise dreary early afternoon on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. The train is seen passing the former West Shore Railroad (later New York Central) Congers, New York Station. In 2005, the Town of Clarkstown restored the station and in 2008 opened the Congers Community Museum on the second floor. The construction of the railroad through this area by the Jersey City & Albany Railway Company was mainly due to easements of the land by Abraham and Mary Conger and the need to transport the ice harvested from area lakes in the winter that supplied New York City. Passenger service ended in 1959.
