An Erie Western train passes the old Pennsy depot in Decatur. The depot still exists today and looks to be in great condition. Besides their 158 mile former Erie main across Indiana, ERES also operated the former PRR from Decatur south to Portland, IN, a total of 28 miles. Looking at Google Maps, this line is still in place at this location with some significant looking business on the north side of Decatur. Erie Western would call it quits less than two months later on June 24, 1979. Erie Western's successor, the Chicago & Indiana Ry., would only last 6 months, hanging it up at the end of 1979.
