An Erie Western train is about to rejoin their 158 mile former Erie mainline across Indiana after coming off their former PRR branch to Portland, IN. Besides their former Erie main, ERES also operated the former PRR line from Decatur south to Portland, IN, a total of 28 miles. Erie Western would call it quits less than two months later on June 24, 1979. Erie Western's successor, the Chicago & Indiana Ry., would only last 6 months, hanging it up at the end of 1979.
