Electro/Battery locomotive Eea 936 # 133 of StadlerRail is pulling the new hydrogen Flirt "Flirt H2" for the californian Metrolink from Etzwilen over the Rhine bridge to Hemishofen. The new hydrogen powered train will make test runs on the former, never electrified, SBB line between Etzwilen and Singen, probably between Hemishofen and Ramsen. The line is now a museum railway line, owned by the foundation "Stiftung Museumsbahn Stein am Rhein – Etzwilen – Hemishofen – Ramsen & Rielasingen – Singen (SEHR & RS)". The train is destined for the Redlands Passenger Rail Project for the line between Redlands and San Bernardino. The power pack accommodates the entire hydrogen technology, from the fuel cells and batteries to the hydrogen tanks. This means that hydrogen technology is spatially clearly separated from the passenger compartments of the train. In November 2019, SBCTA (San Bernardino County Transit Authority) partnered with Stadler to design and build the first hydrogen-powered FLIRT.
