Remarks & Notes |
For the passenger extra from Vallorbe to the Christmas market in Lucerne, the association 141 R 568 rented the locomotive Ae 4/4 # 251 of the BLS Stiftung (BLS foundation) in Burgdorf. The locomotive for 125 km/h was built in 1944 by SLM and BBC for the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon Bahn (BLS) with two bogies and 2940 kW. The Ae 4/4 was the world's first high-performance locomotive without carrying axles for use in express train service. It served as the model for the four-axle bogie locomotive that became established throughout Europe after World War II. The train with 9 former SBB cars owned by Sir Andrew Cook and lettered with "Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon" ran from Vallorbe via Cossonay-Lausanne-Fribourg-Berne-Burgdorf-Rothrist-Zofingen to Lucerne and back the same way. |
