Remarks & Notes |
240 is near the end of it's cross-country journey from California to the Charlotte intermodal yard just 8 miles ahead. They're passing a favorite photo location, the Southern-era signal bridge in Lowell that serves as intermediates for the southbound crossovers at Ranlo as well as the northbound end of double track at South Fork. But this bridge also had the lower head to display advance-approach for northbound coal trains to enter the Belmont pocket track, the destination of many of the coal trains that operated over Saluda grade. |
