On December 3rd, 2022, employees from Amtrak's Zone 1 Northeast Division teamed up for the return of the annual "Santa Express" train. The Santa Express is an Acela trainset with holiday decorations that takes employees and their families on a round trip between South Station in Boston, Massachusetts and the "North Pole" (Kingston, Rhode Island). During the journey, passengers enjoyed the holiday themed interior, holiday tunes, hot cocoa and visits from several familiar Christmas characters, all while dashing down the Northeast Corridor at speeds of up to 150mph. The entire train ride, including the decorations, snacks and small gifts are made possible by donations from employees.
