Rounding the superelevated curve on the wye at CP Maple, where Metrolink's Orange and Olive subs connect, is Union Pacific's Coast Mesa local, train LOA32. Normally operated with back-to-back Geeps, today train has just one locomotive, UP GP40-2 1375 (ex-Southern Pacific 7602, originally SP passenger locomotive GP40P-2 3199). Apparently, the other locomotive assigned to this train, GP60 1083, was sent to West Colton Diesel Service with a problem and, reportedly, they are awaiting a part. So, it's my lucky day, as getting a GP40P-2 running long-hood forward is somewhat unusual ... and I certainly wasn't complaining! Today’s southbound train had 5 loads (one Centerflow covered hopper and four tank cars headed to Behr Paint) and 6 empties (two box cars and four centerbeams). (Orange, California – December 14, 2022)
