5-Axle Under Cover. Grapevine Vintage Railroad 2016 (ex-CDTX 2016, exx-MNCW 2016, exxx-523, exxxx-MNCW 5044, exxxxx-CR 5044, exxxxxx-PC 5044, née-NH 2044, EMD, 10/1960) was brought to Texas when the State Of Connecticut sold off the last 6 FL-9s on its roster. The FL-9 was constructed in 2 orders that totaled 60 units and all operated for the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad. The locomotive is distinctive for its 5 axles, 2 on the front truck and 3 on the rear, that support the eLongated (thus the L) body to accommodate both the diesel engine and third rail running gear, making them dual mode and able to run in the tunnels of New York City. On December 30, 2020, it sits at the Stockyards Station in Fort Worth, Texas, with the day's train, sister unit GVRX 2014 on the other end will bring the train back to Grapevine.
