“Susky Crossing” Amtrak 155(7), a NYP-WAS Northeast Regional, led by ACS-64 AMTK 638, sprints [pun intended] across the “Susquehanna River Movable Bridge” into Havre de Grace, MD.
The river crossing sees 80-90 Amtrak trains, plus 12-14 MARC trains, and 8-10 Norfolk Southern freights per day. The PB&W [read PRR]-built 1906 double-track structure, which incorporates a movable swing bridge, is nearing the end of its service life, and is slated for replacement with twin double-track spans, with anticipated completion by 2036. The project includes demolition and removal of 10 remnant piers (two of which can be seen here) of the 1866 PW&B railroad bridge.
