With all the torrential rain California has received in the last two weeks, the Coast route was shut down due to bridge damage and other issues around Honda (near Vandenberg SFB). Lucky for us, this usually means a handful of work trains we wouldn't otherwise see. One of these trains is seen here, a northbound empty ballast train led by UP 8453 with NS 7685 in consist, approaching the CA-25 crossing a few miles south of Gilroy. The fields here are still saturated from the previous week's rain. Five days earlier, Uvas Creek flooded the US-101/CA-25 interchange and many square miles of farmland, including right here where water was flowing a foot deep over Highway 25 into this field.
