Remarks & Notes

This image is kind of special because it's one of the last photos taken by the legendary Otto Conrad Perry. He died at his home in Colorado on December 23rd 1970, two days after his 76th birthday. I regret not attempting to look him up in 1968, when I was stationed at the Fort Carson Colorado Army base near Colorado Springs, where this photo was taken. Compared to my tour of duty the previous year, Colorado was like a heavenly paradise, and I often think how cool it would have been to tag along with Otto to some of his remote mountain-railroad haunts to take photos, especially on the old original Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe.
