On my second day in Alabama, we visited the Huntsville & Madison County Railroad Authority, which had two General Electric locomotives parked in an accessible spot. And it was here that I finally began to feel as if I were in the deep South. First, an interesting shortline, with HMCR U23B 9554 (ex-VLIX 9554, ex-TISH 9554, ex-CSXT 9554, ex-CSXT 3301, ex-SBD 2800, née-LN 2800). Secondly, a high-nosed diesel, in the form of HMCR B23-7 3986 (ex-PBRR 3986; ex-NS 3986; née-SOU [CG] 3986). And, finally, an offensive, hateful, traitorous, un-American sticker applied between the numberboards of the 9554. Ugh! (Huntsville, Alabama – October 1, 2015)
