Conrail train #3307 on the North Jersey Coast Line (fka the New York & Long Branch) picks up speed south of South Amboy New Jersey in the afternoon of March 30, 1978. The consist included two ratty E8As, what I think was an ex Santa Fe Budd car, and three Pennsy P70s. My memory is that the P70s did not last that long after this. I'd like to claim I knew what I was doing when I took this picture, but most of the other frames on this roll are blurry, cut off, obstructed, and wrong side of the sun. Somehow I lucked into this shot.

Thanks largely to mergers and bankruptcies, New Jersey's commuter railroads underwent profound changes between the end of steam and the takeover by NJ Transit in 1983.
