NS 099 pulled by NKP 765 rolls over the Missouri River on the NS St. Louis to Kansas City line at St. Charles, MO. The destination of the morning employee special is just west of St. Charles, MO on 9/8/12. Disclaimer: a little Photoshop magic was used to remove the road bridge behind the NS bridge.
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
The Van Swearingen Brothers standarized freight power for their railroads with nearly identical 2-8-4 Berkshires. Two of these engines are still in excursion service.
